Fonte Benémola is a protected area since 1991 and is located in a green valley full of animal and plant life. It is the home of over 100 different species of birds that live, reproduce and migrate to its banks. The bird activity can be seen throughout the whole trail.

The plant life is abundant, with more than 300 species so diversified that the trail seems to pass through several natural regions of the Algarve. It is also possible to see many species of water snakes swimming in the creek in search of small fish and also turtles sunning themselves on the banks of the creek.
