Morgan's Nature Walks - Nave do Barão

The Almond Blossom Trail

The walk is located in a green valley of important farm land due to its fertile soil. Agriculture is an important part of the valley’s economy, where the carob tree, the olive tree, the almond tree and the fig tree supply an important income for the local farmers and the vegetable patches supply vegetables and some fruits.

The Nave do Barão valley is known as a geological monument but it is also known for its strong and peculiar homemade wine that dates back to the time of kings. According to local historical documents the production of wine was given to a baron who lived here and it was his job to produce the wine for the king’s table and noble foreign travelers. The wine may not be the same but it is still a wine worthy for the “Barons” that still live in this valley and the visitors who would like to taste it.

During the months of January and February the almond blossoms offer a unique visual and olfactory show, a white and pink blanket covers the valley and flanks a beautiful seasonal pond that invites for a pleasant walk.
