Morgan’s Nature Walks presents an exclusive pedestrian trail full of history, farming and nature. Quinta do Freixo is considered one of the largest family farms in the Algarve Region. Presently the farm has approximately a 1000 sheep and produces Fig Cheese, Fig Jam, Fig Spirits and Wool.
Located in a valley in the northern part of the Local Protected Landscape of Rocha da Pena, Quinta do Freixo is surrounded by shale grade hills to the north and limestone slopes and cliffs to the south. Such diversity in landscapes makes this walk unforgettable.
The pedestrian trail is approximately 8 km long, it passes through a valley with grazing fields for sheep, followed by a long climb up to the windmills of Rocha that were once important structures for the surrounding farming communities but are now left in ruins. The final part of the trail follows a small narrow trail through tunnels of thick vegetation under the limestone rocks of the geological monument of Rocha da Pena.
This trail is a perfect walk for anyone who wants to explore and discover the other side of one of the most well-known protected areas of the Algarve’s inland region.
